In short: EMBALL’ISO’s Dynamic Approach matches the level of thermal protection to each shipment (size, destination, duration, season and transport mode) instead of imposing a one-size-fits-all solution. Four levels are available: PROTECTIVE, STANDARD, PREMIUM and PREMIUM+.
What is the Dynamic Approach?
The Dynamic Approach is EMBALL’ISO’s method for selecting an isothermal packaging solution proportionate to the real risk of each shipment. A parcel sent by road within France in winter does not face the same constraints as an air shipment to Asia in midsummer, and a single packaging solution cannot efficiently serve both.
Whatever the size, destination or duration of your shipment, there is an isothermal solution that fits your needs.
The approach rests on three principles:
• Adapt the level of protection to the shipment profile;
• Avoid over-packaging (cost, weight, volume, environmental impact) as well as under-sizing (risk of cold chain failure);
• Ensure a qualified solution whenever required by regulations or product specifications.
Which criteria determine the right level?
Four questions help guide the choice:
- What temperature range must be maintained? Cool +2°C/+8°C Temperate +2°C/+25°C Temperate +15°C/+25°C Freeze -25°C/-15°C Deep freeze <-70°C
- What is the maximum transit time, including waiting times and transfers between carriers?
- What are the climatic conditions along the route? (season, countries crossed, heat or frost peaks)
- Which transport mode is used (road, air, sea, express) and what are its constraints (weight, volume, AWB requirements)?
The four levels of the Dynamic Approach
PROTECTIVE: basic protection
The Protective level provides basic protection against short-duration temperature spikes.
- Waterproof, breathable and reflective packaging
- Perfectly suited to pharmaceutical corridors, sea freight and strict air waybill (AWB) flows
Who is it for? Short or low-exposure shipments, where the goal is to buffer an occasional temperature spike rather than hold a temperature over a long period.
STANDARD: a reliable, qualified solution
The Standard level offers a standard safety level, with a reliable and qualified solution for General Cargo or AWB shipments.
- Gel water briquettes
- Seasonal Packout configuration (adapted to the season)
Who is it for? Regular flows whose conditions are known and under control, with a good balance between performance and cost.
PREMIUM: high performance
The Premium level delivers a high safety level, with a qualified high-performance solution for General Cargo or AWB shipments.
- PCM (Phase Change Material) briquettes
- Universal or Seasonal Packout
Who is it for? Sensitive products and longer or more exposed routes, where temperature stability is critical.
PREMIUM+: maximum safety level
The PREMIUM+ level provides the maximum safety level, with a high-performance solution suited to all shipping conditions.
- PCM (Phase Change Material) briquettes
- Universal Packout for ease of use
Who is it for? Highly critical shipments, destinations with extreme or unpredictable conditions, and teams that want a single configuration all year round.
PREMIUM+: maximum safety level
| Level | Security | Coolant | Packout | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PROTECTIVE | Basic protection | Not specified (reflective packaging) | n/a | Short temperature spikes, pharma corridors, sea freight, strict AWB flows |
| STANDARD | Standard | Gel water briquettes | Seasonal | Regular flows, General Cargo or AWB |
| PREMIUM | High | PCM briquettes | Universal or Seasonal | Sensitive products, exposed routes |
| PREMIUM+ | Maximum | PCM briquettes | Universal | All shipping conditions |
Gel water or PCM: what is the difference?
- Gel water briquettes: a proven, cost-effective solution used at the STANDARD level.
- PCM (Phase Change Material) briquettes: they absorb and release thermal energy at a specific phase-change temperature, delivering better temperature stability over time. They equip the PREMIUM and PREMIUM+ levels.
Seasonal Packout or Universal Packout?
- Seasonal Packout: the parcel configuration (quantity and arrangement of coolants) changes with the season to optimize performance and cost.
- Universal Packout: a single configuration valid all year round, which simplifies packing operations and reduces the risk of error.
Why adopt a dynamic approach?
- Cold chain security: the protection level matches the actual risk.
- Cost optimization: you do not pay for performance you do not need.
- Compliance: qualified solutions for General Cargo and AWB flows.
- Operational simplicity: Universal Packout limits packing errors.
Frequently asked questions
What is EMBALL’ISO’s Dynamic Approach?
It is a selection method that adapts the level of isothermal protection (PROTECTIVE, STANDARD, PREMIUM, PREMIUM+) to the size, destination and duration of each shipment.
Which level should I choose for air transport?
The STANDARD, PREMIUM and PREMIUM+ levels offer solutions qualified for AWB. The Protective level suits strict air flows requiring basic protection. The final choice depends on transit time and target temperature.
What is the difference between PREMIUM and PREMIUM+?
Both solutions use PCM briquettes, but PREMIUM+ incorporates a more efficient insulating material, delivering the highest level of thermal protection for all shipping conditions. PREMIUM+ is available with Universal Packout only, while PREMIUM can be used with either Universal or Seasonal Packout.
